UnfoldingPeri-Implantitis is a timely publication to enlarge the armamentarium of theimplant clinician. When osseointegration was introduced as a therapy for thereplacement of the natural dentition by Branemark, itappeared to be a highly predictable procedure if performed under sterileconditions by dentists with a formal surgical background. It was accepted as anappropriate predictable solution for young and middle-aged edentulous patients.No one anticipated the positive results and the acceptability of clientele tofollow through with these therapies.

The editorshave engaged surgical and prosthetic thought leaders to share their methodsranging from prevention to regeneration. The surgical complications require adecision whether to save a tooth or insert an implant. The location of theimplant is important if it can be performed in an acceptable fashion for thepatient. The patients satisfaction will vary greatly from posterior teeth tothe esthetic zone. Therefore, there are times where you can save the implantalthough it is not in the best interest of the patient.

Awell-prepared clinician resolves this decision based on previous experience andrecently-approved therapeutics. This text provides contemporary information topractice constructive endpoint goals for the patients. I would suggest thatthere is a place in every dental operatory for this text and I am sure that itwill provide the solutions required to manage periimplantitis.
